Matrimonial Law

In order to begin a divorce proceeding a party must purchase an index number from the county they are filing their action in and serve the other party with a summons and notice.  It is always best for the parties to try to remain as civil and amicable as possible throughout the process.  Issues including maintenance (formerly known as alimony), retirement, child support, custody of the children, the marital residence, visitation with the children and marital debt often arise, and can be handled through both settlement negotiations and utilizing the courts.
